Vayots Dzor region is completely different than what you would normally find in Yerevan. Look around and see the unique composition of rocks and trees.
On your way to Yeghegnadzor is Areni village, famous for its historical caves. About ten years ago, a 5500-year-old leather shoe has been found at one of the caves in the village, which is believed to be the oldest shoe in the world. So, drive around the caves or stop by and explore what is inside them.
Around 10 kilometers away from Areni is Noravank – one of the most mesmerizing monasteries you will ever see in Armenia, located in a beautiful gorge all around. Built in the 13th century, there is a well-constructed road to drive up to the church and see the view from above.
If you are having trouble navigating your way around, stop the car and make conversations with other people. Armenians are generally friendly and will give you the needed directions. And if you have any issues you find challenging, contact our team at Enterprise - we are there to support you 24/7.
What to Eat and Drink
You have now made it to Vayots Dzor but are hungry and need to eat some good food.
Stop by at the travelers’ favorite place - Yeghegnadzor Food Court. This is very commonplace for people to take a break when they are either going to a place in Vayots Dzor or continuing their road even further to Syunik region and beyond.
So, besides finding good food, you are likely to meet many foreigners who are exploring the country. They are either in tourist buses or have decided to take charge of their own time and are renting cars just like you.
All in all, Vayots Dzor is a great weekend getaway, if you are looking to explore more of Armenia’s beautiful nature and want an opportunity to make connections with locals & other foreigners. Plan your adventures by renting a car of your own and our team at Enterprise will be there to support you in any part of that journey!
